Founded in 1990 the North Gwent Cardiac Rehabilitation and Aftercare Charity (NGCRAC) runs community exercise classes for patients who have suffered a cardiac event within Monmouthshire and Blaenau Gwent. Our primary aim is to provide our patients with the best rehabilitation service in the UK.
Whether it’s a heart attack, cardiac surgery or heart failure diagnosis, our charity supports the people who need us most and helps them to regain their strength and confidence through exercise, in order to live a happier, healthier life.
Upon graduating from the 6-8 week hospital programme often referred to as Phase 3, patients are encouraged to continue with rehabilitation and adopt exercise and a heart-healthy diet as part of their new lifestyle. This is where we come in.
Supported by our team of BACPR cardiac rehab fitness instructors, former patients can exercise in a safe and monitored environment surrounded by people who have shared similar experiences.
We understand the physical and emotional impact living with heart problems can have, that’s why we continuously work to improve the quality of our service and the lives of our patients.
Run by a voluntary board of trustees and supported by our fundraising committee, as a not-for-profit organisation we rely on class membership, donations and fundraising activities to keep us ticking over. With several annual and standalone charity events throughout the year we enjoy rallying people together to help us protect every heartbeat.
Taking steps to help people prevent heart disease is something we believe passionately in; this is why we actively promote education within the classes and assist in heart research.
