About us

We’re a registered charity providing community-based cardiac rehab exercise classes to help people regain and maintain their fitness following a heart diagnosis

Cardiac rehab works!

If you have a heart or circulatory condition, regular cardiac rehab exercise is one of the best things you can do to stay healthy. We make it easy with weekly classes across North Gwent.

Founded in 1990, the North Gwent Cardiac Rehabilitation and Aftercare Charity uses exercise to help improve the health and wellbeing of people living with heart and circulatory conditions across North Monmouthshire and Blaenau Gwent.

Currently these diseases kill 1 in 4 people in our region, and while treatment has improved massively over the past 30 years, outcomes for patients in Wales are still worse than in England.

The good news is that regular physical exercise is one of the most effective things people can do to manage their heart health and regain and maintain their fitness and quality of life.

So we make it easy, with an ongoing programme of weekly classes at convenient locations across our region.

More than 20,000 people across North Gwent are living with heart and circulatory diseases

Expert instructors

Our exercise instructors are all fully qualified through the British Association for Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation, the gold-standard for cardiac rehab. So you can be sure you’re exercising safely under expert supervision.

Specialist classes

Our 1-hour exercise classes are uniquely designed for people referred in from hospitals, GPs and other health professionals. We work closely with the NHS and our classes are recognised as an essential part of successful long-term cardiac rehabilitation.

How we operate

We subsidise the cost of our classes, to make them as affordable as possible for members. We operate without NHS funding, so we rely on grants, donations and the generous support of the public and our community to help us deliver our vital services.
