We’re looking for 12 great images capturing moments across the seasons for our 2027 fundraising calendar – and we’d love your photos to be part of it. This year’s theme is “Joy in the Outdoors”, celebrating the simple, uplifting moments we find when we step outside.
What kind of photos can you send?
The theme is wide open. It could be sunlight through trees, lambs frisking in a field, a garden bursting with colour, or something quirky, like a group of smiling snowmen, or muddy wellies splashing through a puddle.
We’ll need a total of 12 colourful shots – one for each month. So as well as taking photos now, do hunt back through your archives for photos that illustrate the colder months. You can submit up to 3 images this year. All we ask is that your photos are taken somewhere in Wales and that no clearly identifiable people appear in them. So silhouettes, backs of heads, or close-ups of hands or feet are fine – but no recognisable faces, please.
Age restrictions
None. But if you are under 18 you will need a parent or guardian’s consent, and you will need to provide THEIR email and contact phone number instead of yours when you submit your photos.
Deadline
Please submit your entries by 5pm on Friday 31 July.
Photo requirements
To help us create a high‑quality printed calendar, photos need to be:
• digital files – .jpg is best
• landscape format – so your photos must be wider than they are tall
• high resolution – large, clear images that are not blurry or pixelated – ideally 300dpi
Each entry should also include:
• a title for the photo
• a short note on where it was taken
• the month or season it was taken
How to submit
Simply upload your photo and details using this form. We can’t wait to see your entries!
GENERAL INFO
We’re looking for active, inspiring photographs that spark a positive connection with the Welsh landscape, including its wildlife, weather, or our human interaction with the great outdoors.
Remember the photos are for a calendar, so we’ll need shots to illustrate each month of the year. Given the July deadline, we realise this will mean hunting through you back catalogues for photos suitable for the colder months!
The 12 photographs selected by our judges will appear in our 2027 fundraising calendar. The overall winner selected by the judges will feature on the cover of the calendar as well as inside. All 12 winners will receive a free copy of the 2027 calendar.
RESTRICTIONS
All entries must have been taken somewhere in Wales. We welcome submissions that include people but to avoid issues around consent, please DO NOT send any photos where a person’s face (adult or child) can clearly be seen and identified.
So, for example, a photo showing a pair of wellied feet jumping in a puddle would be fine. But a photograph of a child running through fallen leaves face-on towards the camera would not – unless the photo was somehow cropped or the subject’s face naturally obscured.
Please read these additional rules before entering.
- This competition is administered by the North Gwent Cardiac Rehabilitation and Aftercare Charity.
- Entrants must not be professional photographers. For the purposes of this competition, a professional photographer is anyone who makes more than half their annual income from the sale of their photographs.
- Photos must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party. Entrants must not have breached any laws when taking their photographs.
- We are looking for original, unpublished photographs, so entries must not have won any national or international competitions previously. For the purposes of this competition, ‘national’ refers to the whole of the UK, or to individual national competitions in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
- We understand that digital photography allows for some image enhancement. You can enter images that have had spots, scratches or other blemishes removed. You can also work on the colour or enhance/crop the image to improve the composition. But we will not accept entries that combine two or more photographs to make one image, or entries that superimpose elements photographed separately on to an image. We will also not images created or altered using AI. The judges reserve the right to exclude any image they believe may have been excessively treated so as to alter its authenticity.
- Photographs must be taken responsibly, adhering to all government guidelines across Wales. Respect must be given for local habitats, communities and business such as farmland and nature reserves where there may be local instructions in place for visitors, walkers and others enjoying the countryside. - The competition deadline is 5pm on Friday 31 July 2026. Entries received after the deadline will not be considered. We cannot accept any responsibility for any problem with internet service providers, networks or other systems that may result in any entry being delayed or not received. The judges’ decision on the eligibility of individual photographs will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- Judging will take place within 2 weeks of the competition closing date, with the 12 winners chosen on the following criteria:
- Composition
- Technical ability
- Originality
- Public appeal
- Whether it meets the brief
- Suitability for inclusion in our calendar
The judges may also choose additional photos to appear in montage on the back cover of the calendar. These will be selected using the above criteria.
- Winners will be notified by the charity within 2 weeks of judging. Any contact with entrants aged under 18 will be made through the nominated parent/guardian. If after reasonable attempts a winning entrant cannot be contacted, we reserve the right to choose the next best entry for inclusion in the calendar. Unsuccessful entrants will not be contacted and no feedback on any entry will be provided.
- All 12 winners will receive a free copy of the calendar once it is printed. The prizes are as stated and there is no cash alternative. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence can be entered into.
- Entrants will retain copyright for their photographs, but entrants grant to the charity the right to publish and exhibit their photographs in the calendar and on the charity’s website and social media in perpetuity. Featured photos may also be published in the charity’s quarterly newsletter, Ticker News, and used in other publicity. No fees will be payable for any of the above uses. Winning entrants also agree to take part in post-competition publicity, if required. While we will make every effort to credit photographers, including in printed reproductions of their work, we cannot guarantee that every use of the photographs will include the photographers’ names. In addition, winners must not use their photos to publicise or promote themselves or other companies, individuals, organisations or causes until 31 January 2028.
- By submitting photos, entrants will be deemed to have agreed to be bound by these rules. The charity reserves the right to exclude any entry from the competition at any time and in its absolute discretion if it has reason to believe that an entrant has breached these rules, or acted fraudulently or in any way that brings the charity into disrepute. When an entry is submitted by a parent or guardian on behalf of an entrant, the parent or guardian shall be responsible for the entrant’s compliance with these rules.
- The charity reserves the right to cancel this competition or alter any of the rules at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, and if circumstances arise outside of its control.
