Our supporter Ruth Cornish is planning a year of challenges to help raise funds for us

The former Registered General Nurse, originally from Bristol, has set herself a target of completing six fundraising activities for us this year to mark turning 60.

“John, my husband, went to classes run by a similar charity in Lancashire following two cardiac events two years ago,” explains Ruth. “Those classes really helped him regain his fitness and confidence so he could get back to enjoying his twin passions: running and cycling. So now we’re living in Crickhowell it makes sense for me to support our local heart charity.”

Diverse challenges

Ruth, who is a qualified massage therapist, has already raised £200 for us with a special Massage Day at Crickhowell’s Wellness Room on 01 March.

Her next challenge will be selling entries for our Potato Growing Challenge, which kicks off on Saturday 07 March. Ruth will be running a pop-up stall outside Treebeards Bar on Crickhowell High Street, from midday-4pm.

Ruth, who’s a keen runner and sportswoman, is also planning some physically demanding challenges, including:

  • Run-walking the South Wales Three Peaks Trial route (Blorenge, Sugarloaf and Skirrid) in late April or early May.
  • Competing in the Clayton Shorthouse Memorial Sprint Triathlon in Ebbw Vale on Sunday 23 August.
  • A 24-hour Pickleball marathon later in the year.
